Self worth
Been a long time since I blog - I am currently busy blogging about cycling over here. Do drop by to read if you are into cycling.
If I had things going my way, perhaps I would like to be a professional basketball player. But by 25, I started to realise I am not talented enough and I guess that was when my degree kicked in to get a real job.

More WANTS!
Coming soon...cool technology which would change how we use our computers.
My company was supposed to develop something similar, but looks like this would be easier adoption.
I wish they can work with Command and Conquer or StarCraft games!

Educated bastards
I once spend an afternoon advising a friend, who was contemplating in giving up a good opportunity at work versus studying for more qualifications. Despite knowing there isn't much more to learn in that paper chase compared to experience picked up from working. I am now telling myself if I should do the same, fighting against peer pressure, social norms and society's perception.
I would confidently say half the problems we have in this world today came from highly educated bastards.
While those that never graduated, skipped school gave us nice phones, great software etc.

Simple engineering
Though I doubt I am getting the iPhone 4, this is one cool piece of simple tool.
And the concept of getting funding to get it built through donations, is again another form of creativity. Click on the link for more details and video of the cool usage.

I Have Acrophobia
There are engineering jobs which requires engineers to climb up communication antennas to fix - it is not for me. I don't care how much they are paid, but no amount can get me to climb up broadcast towers which are 1786 feet tall! That's higher than the Empire State Building (1250ft)!
Anyway check out this video before it's taken off - sorry I cannot embed it here. As it was just taken off Youtube as the engineer's company came to find out about it, as it was done as a favour to headmount the camera to the engineer's helmet...I had vertigo just watching his climb all the way up. Totally no safety line, just hands and feet going up the tower! Awesome view, just not sure if he fell down, would the video feed put me out to sleep...???

*Update - managed to find a Yahoo repost and embed the video here (ooh I love the internet) :

Engineered Space
Again another showcase of careful engineering and innovative design, fused to create value to the society and saves space.
Just wondering how much they cost and when does it get mass produced.

New fav Nature/Wildlife photography blog
Hope to be able to do this sort of photography in the later part of my life. Love Phillip Colla's wildlife and nature pictures, sharing his blog. His natural history photography has appeared in the pages of BBC Wildlife, National Wildlife, Ocean Realm, Ranger Rick, Reader's Digest, Skin Diver, and National Geographic Magazine; photos also widely used in aquariums and museums.
California photographer Phillip Colla / Oceanlight.com
This is his gear list - Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III & II, with lenses like the 500 f/4, 400 f/5.6, 300 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, 16-35 f/2.8 II and 15mm fisheye (all killer lenses)
And woohoo, he is also an engineering graduate.

Jaymee Ong getting married

It's a sad day knowing your fav model is getting married. It's like taking my Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford calenders and posters away from me during my adolescent-pumping-teenage years. But damn, Jaymee Ong is getting married!
A lot of people might not know who she is, currently seen on AXN's eBuzz as host as well as previous Contender Asia. I think I have some ads of her when she was still in her teen as a model...haha. She did appear on Pearl Harbor (I am still trying to find her in that movie) and guest appearances in various TV series such as Las Vegas and Entourage.
Anyway enough said about my persistent tracking of her, I am happy for her, seriously because I have seen her beau at the Slingers game, and I thought he might be someone in the industry - reading crappy sad news about consistent breakups between celebrities such as Glenn Ong really makes me wonder if those people can ever find true happiness. But is it now known that Jaymee's lucky 2nd half, Matthew Heath is an electrical engineer! B.Eng rawks! Seriously I applaude you - Matthew! As a fellow engineer, also with a B.Eng (Electrical & Electronics) title to my name - you scored!
From Matthew:
'So when people say you can never meet the love of your life at a club (they met at the now-defunct Ministry of Sound), it's such a lie. You can - just don't be drunk when you meet them.'
And there you go Jase!
Jaymee added:
'I've dated people from the industry but never found someone really compatible. I just wanted someone who's real.
'Matt doesn't try to impress; he is who he is. He gets along with everyone.
So this goes out to all engineers who are having an increasingly prestigious job, and President Obama on the latest Jay Leno's show mentioned "Engineer" first over scientists, doctors or teachers as adding value to the world and yes, financiers and elite smart CEO-asses are the cause of the current shit we are facing. I hope the Singapore government was watching Jay Leno last week, hire some down-to-earth-engineer as MP for God's sake!
Quoted from President Obama:
And what we need is steady growth; we need young people, instead of -- a smart kid coming out of school, instead of wanting to be an investment banker, we need them to decide they want to be an engineer, they want to be a scientist, they want to be a doctor or a teacher.
For those who missed the show - full transcript of Obama found here.
And a video here (Full interview on NBC.com):
And yes just to emphasise once more, now we even get the hotties!
