Singapore Slingers over Thailand Tigers

This is a late post, sorry to all Slingers fans as I was caught up with work lately and as you all know how tedious it is to edit photos and actually creating a good review about the fantastic game atmosphere at the Singapore Indoor Stadium when Slingers win it! I wanted to blog over at SingaporeAddicts blog site as it was first mooted to be a joint effort, but clearly of late I might end up handling both, so I decided to leave it and blog about Slinger games right here.

Prior to my last post on how much the Slingers wanted to win over Tigers, and did it by a mere 3 points 69-66 on 17th Dec (My God..over a month and it was the Christmas game!). This is the follow up review as promised with stats and more pictures.

Who would believe that field goal percentage of just 35% vs 41% of Tigers, with Weijian and Al Vergara scoring a combined 5/21 FG ~25% could give us the win. Well it all boiled down to the final 20 secs. Yes...20 secs which drove the crowd wild. We were down 10 points;39-29 in the half and cut the lead to 5 in the 3rd and a tight matchup in the 4th. That is all the boring stuff, let's recap what happened in the last 20 exciting seconds.

19secs: Slingers down 64-66, Al Vergara made a pass to Jeffers under the basket and scored going hard to the rim with a foul from Thailand's Centre #35 Ikenna Nwankwo (Don't ask me how to pronounce that without sounding offensive)

Slingers draw 66-66, with Jeffers taking a free throw - a chance to lead.

18 secs: But Kyle missed! I guess it was either the hard knock earlier or the pressure...but he made it up with the most crucial offensive rebound of the day and made the pass to an open Michael Leblanc, who banked it in!!

15 secs:Michael running along the crowd to their jubilant cheers and approval.

14 secs: Tigers have a chance for one possession to tie or win it.Tigers #23 Piroon had a chance, but was blocked by Kyle!
2 secs: Kyle got back possession and a futile attempt to foul him resulting in 1 of 2 FTs to seal the game.

And the hero?

Battle of #35s on the boards.Leblanc had 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Jeffers with a power dunk with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Either Michael or Kyle. But I would have to say the crucial rebounds from Kyle saved the day. Here's a pic of him holding the ball like it was the NBA Finals Trophy.

The cheerleaders jumping off the ground, everyone's hands in the air, including 2 Slinger fans all the way at the back, about to leave thinking it was all over.

Check out fans here at the side. Look at the smiles on the scoring table, the bench is moving to congratulate the team on the floor.

For Desmond and Steven, they hugged and chest pumped with Jeffers. Just ecstatic! Well for me...I lost my voice that night.

Come back soon for the next "owed" review between Slingers and Patriot which was just CraZy...hope the readers enjoyed the review and a relive for those who were there, do join us this Sunday 4pm at the Singapore Indoor Stadium against Indonesia! It's the playoffs!!!
