Slingers losing to Spirit

Sorry for the late post, as my schedules fill up and time became a scarce item.
Singapore Slingers played Sydney Spirits on 5th Oct, which is the only team left in Sydney after Sydney Kings dissolved. To match up a NBL team, it's always exciting and to be wondering how much we have improved since they last met in the last NBL season. We have won all 3 matches with the Filipino Teams in the Singapore Challenge Cup, unfortunately we lost Kirkland and Sandrin to injuries sustained over the previous games - you can catch Sandrin's nasty fall in my previous post. Without the two's presence, you can obviously see our defence collapsing as Sydney brings it to the hole.

Jamal Brown taking over the reins and Jersey from Eric who is out for 10 weeks suffering from broken ribs as we heard.

Slingers began well with the scores closely matched in the 1st quarter but Sydney Spirit has the inside presence which grabbed both offensive and defensive rebounds early in the game and made changes to their offense and started going to the hoops. They teared away for a 46-37 point lead at halftime.

Janev #21 going in strong - high man of the game with 22 points.

Liam Rush #13 going strong to the hole!

The game started to widen in the 2nd half but full court pressure defence strategy by Coach McLeod led to a close 2nd half with both quarters evenly matched in scoring. But it was a case of a little too late, as Slingers were unfortunate to have lost the game 90-81 as well as $10,000!

Nic and Jase on the floor.

Thanks to Nic for scoring Jase and myself some court side media passes to capture some great shots!

Clearly the Slingers would have won if we had both Kirkland and Sandrin on the floor. But it was still a great match and I can observe Slingers being more team-centric - Head Coach McLeod has progressed the team well and I applaud his efforts.
Slingers may have lost to Spirit that day but their spirits have strengthened in leaps and bounds from my observations.
